About the project

You are being invited to take part in a research project. Before you decide, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve.  Please take your time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Please email the researcher if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information (see contact information at the end of this document).

The purpose of the project is to trial and evaluate a participatory engagement process involving local residents, businesses and community groups. We want to identify barriers restricting climate action at local levels, as well as locally appropriate solutions that could be implemented to overcome these whilst securing wider community benefits (e.g. job creation, skills development, economic growth, wellbeing, improved air quality, better health). The project will culminate with an in-person “Have your say” event at the Town Hall on Thursday 22nd June (16:30 – 21:30) to identify local priorities and put these forward for grant funding later in the year. We will also be running focus group discussions where residents and businesses can talk with one another about local challenges and opportunities, working together to create ideas. If you want to be contacted about participating in a focus group discussion, then be sure to tick the relevant box when you submit your idea to us via the website.

Your involvement in this project

Your involvement in this project relates to you submitting a barrier or solution to the “Have your say, Aberfeldy” website, which constitutes one component of the overall study as described above. You are taking part (i.e. submitting to this website) because you are a local resident, community group or business in Aberfeldy.

How your data will be used

All or part of the data derived throughout the project will be used for the following. i) to help design focus group discussions where local people and businesses can discuss challenges and opportunities with one another. ii) to help design the in-person “Have your say” event on Thursday 22nd June. And, iii) to complete a report for Innovate UK and to bid for Phase 2 funding from Innovate UK to implement the ideas generated and prioritised throughout the project. The named researchers may also use the data to inform academic publications. The Perth and Kinross Council may use the data to inform future plans and strategies.

Important, please read the following:

  • participation is entirely voluntary

  • GDPR will be adhered to at all times. Please see “privacy policy” for more details.

  • anonymity: direct quotations used in other parts of the project or our reports and publications will be anonymised so that you cannot be identified - unless you explicitly ask to be named.

  • However, we may email you in the future to ask your permission to use your photos or videos in other parts of the project. In this case, it may not be possible to guarantee your anonymity as someone from the local community may recognise you (e.g. if your photo or video submission was used at focus group discussions or the in-person “Have your say” event). You should therefore carefully consider whether you would be happy to participate under these conditions before responding.

  • any variation of the conditions above will only occur with your further explicit approval

By submitting to the “Have your say, Aberfeldy” website, I agree that;

  1. I am voluntarily taking part in this project. I understand that I don’t have to take part;

  2. The data derived may be used as described above;

  3. I can request a copy of the project outputs (e.g. written reports);

  4. I have been able to ask any questions I might have, and I understand that I am free to contact the researcher with any questions I may have in the future.
